Crime rates in Larimer County and throughout Colorado decreased in 2011, according to a recent article in The Coloradoan. Larimer County has a total population of 305,525 people.
An ongoing study of statewide crime rates found that the total number of recorded crimes dropped in Larimer County this past year, from 10,622 reports in 2010 to 10,311 reports in 2011.
Crime rates decreased in nearly every major category. For instance, the number of reported rapes, robberies, assaults, burglaries, arson, and motor vehicle thefts were all lower in Larimer County for 2011 than they were in 2010, according to the report.
The rates of two categories of tracked crimes increased slightly. According to the report, the number of homicides in Larimer County in 2011 increased by four; 2010 saw only a single homicide, while 2011 saw five of them within the county. Similarly, the number of reported non-vehicle thefts went up a bit, from 6,374 to 6,467. Overall, however, law enforcement officials have stated that they feel confident about the trend in crime rates within the county.
